The Govenors of Austin Peay scored the go ahead run, in a tight game with Cal State Fullerton, off a wild pitch in the eighth inning and added two more to win 3-0 Sunday.

Then Rolando Gautier singled up the middle, his second two-out RBI hit in two days, bringing home Jordan Hankins.

Junior right-hander Casey Delgado went the distance tossing a three hitter in his second complete game of the season. Delgado improved his record to 9-4.

“Casey Delgado threw a gem,”Coach Gary McClure said. “He was absolutely spectacular. He didn’t even have one bad stretch throughout the game. He dominated that game and did it in a tough situation where we weren’t putting runs up on the board.”

Casey told TSNSports, ” It was an amazing experience that I’ll never forget.”

The Reivers of Iowa Western Community College (62-6) won their second NJCAA Div.I National Championship (in three years) Saturday night in Grand Junction, Co. with a 6-5 win over San Jacinto of Houston,Tx (41-25).

The game wasn’t without controversy though. Iowa scored the go ahead run in the top of the eighth on a bases loaded balk call, giving the Reivers the lead in a game that was highlighted by great defensive plays by both teams that kept the score close.

Iowa Western ranked number one in the NJCAA Top 20 lost their opening game to San Jac 5-2 and worked their way through the losers bracket winning five straight including the rematch with the Gators to take home the title.

Iowa led 4-3 into the seventh when San Jac plated two runs to grab the lead 5-4. The Gators answered with a  single driving in the two runs to give San Jac a 5-4 advantage.

The game moved into the ninth. The leadoff batter walked, batter number two reached on a sac bunt and both were moved up on another sacrifice bunt. With runners at second and third the tying score came off a single up the middle.

Two batters later, with bases loaded the plate umpire calls a balk on the Gators pitcher that would score the leading run making the score 6-5.

In the bottom of the ninth, with two outs, San Jan’s Justin Byrd triples, but is stranded giving Iowa the win.

Former Columbia State Community College Charger Casey Delgado will get the nod for Sunday’s Austin Peay/Cal State Fullerton Oregon Regional losers bracket elimination game.

Casey will be starting his 17th game this season and will enter game with an 8-4 record. His last start was a 3-0 win in the OVC Championship where he went five-innings in the game against Eastern Ill.

Austin Peay defeated Indiana State 1-0 Saturday, their 6th shutout of the season, one shy of the record and third of the postseason.

Austin Peay solved the Sycamores left hander briefly in the fourth, but that would prove to be enough. Jon Clinard led off the inning with a walk and Jordan Hankins followed with a bloop single. One out later, Reed Harper walked to load the bases. Rolando Gautier brought home the game’s lone run with a single to shallow left field.

With the win, Austin Peay (39-23) advances in the loser’s bracket to face Cal State Fullerton, which fell to host Oregon 7-5 in Saturday’s second game, at noon (PT), Sunday.
