Marshall County ran out of gas Tuesday evening at the 2012 Cal Ripken 12U Softball World Series as they faced the very talented national powerhouse Pitt County, NC losing 16-3 finishing third out of a twenty-team field. Another powerhouse Lodi, CA will have a rematch with Pitt Co. owning a 2-1 victory back on Monday. Lodi is unbeaten in the championship bracket. Pitt County will have to win twice to capture the title.

Marshall County did qualify for a third-place trophy in their best ever season on record. Congrats to all the young ladies and coaches!!!!

Marshall County’s Cal Ripken 12U Softball All Stars have entered the 2012 World Series Championship Bracket after going 4-1 in pool play.

The Tennessee team is accomplishing something they really haven’t grasped yet. Head coach Danny Hollingsworth told TSNSports Monday “that the team is playing its best ball.” He said “they just don’t realize what they have accomplished.”

Marshall County continued its dominance Monday morning with a 10-0 win over Hazlet, NJ. With the win, Marshall County got some much needed time off before facing Prairie Village, KY, who upset the defending champion Oviedo, FL all-stars 1-0.

Marshall County’s pitching has been excellent in all their games. Samantha King picked up her second win of the World Series with a 10-0 shutout over Hazlet, NJ in the first game of championship bracket play for Marshall County on Monday.

Leah Hollingsworth also had a big game with one hit in three at bats, but scored three runs and stole two bases, including a swipe of home as part of a double steal in the second inning.

Samantha King, who was voted Player of the Game, tossed a two-hit shutout, while striking out three, walking one.

Prairie Valley,KY is the next foe for Marshall County. They’ll play today at 5:30 est. (Prairie beat Stamford, CT this morning 2-1 and won their second game of the day Oviedo, Fla 1-0.)
