Lady Chargers’ Soccer Inaugural Game Draws 300 As They Post Their 1st Win!
The worlds most popular sport “soccer” got off the ground Saturday at Ridley Sports Complex for the Columbia State Lady Chargers, as they kicked off their inaugural NJCAA game against Dyersburg State and coming away with a 5-0 shutout.
Being a new, first-ever program at CSCC some 300 fans saw a freshman team run up and down the field with ease. 18-Shyanne Martin of Nashville Overton had the honors, making a great move against the Dyersburg State goalie to score the history-making first goal for the program. It was her first of two for the day. Former Forrest Lady Rockets 33-Johnetta Nelson also got into the action putting in two goals and 9-Gabby Doyle from Community added another.
As this sports guy watched his first complete soccer game, my obersvations were, these girls are good! That’s a shout out to head coach Colton Bryant & assistant Sabrina Gonzalez.

To open the season of any sport, along with it being the first-ever game for the program and to dominate like these freshman did says a lot for not only the coach, but the players. They all know it’ll most likely get harder along the way, but they know they can play, defend and score when they put the effort in.
