-plus item agenda will be first meeting of the 2024-25 school year
August 14, 2024
The Board has on their agenda an item all high school broadcasters across the state have been talking about for years. That is how the TSSAA regulates the media covering the games. If a team makes the playoffs, the video streaming companies are charged a “broadcast fee”. The different sports range in price. For example football playoffs will cost a broadcast crew “$750.00” per game! The agenda they released with this media announcement didn’t go into the particulars of what will be discussed.
The Board of Control will meet on Monday, August 19 in Hermitage at the TSSAA office building. The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. The Board agenda includes over 30 items of varied topics, from financial overviews of different sports to the upcoming classification process.
A proposal to reconsider the new limitation on the number of Hall of Champions games was submitted for consideration. A proposal to allow schools to host one additional contest in numerous sports, including baseball, softball, and girls’ flag football, by contributing $100 to new state office building construction will be discussed by the Board.
A previously tabled proposal for three classes in Division II basketball and volleyball is back for discussion. Proposals for lacrosse classification changes from schools like Ensworth, Upperman, Bradley Central, and Nolensville High School are also on the table.
The meeting is not just limited to financial discussions and classification matters. The agenda also includes updates on essential projects like the TSSAA building, the marketing program, and student services. There’s also space for discussing proposed changes to post-season media regulations — a pertinent topic in times of social media and virtual broadcasts.
