The Waverly High School football team found themselves in a historic position Sunday after sustaining unbelievable damage to its athletic facilities at the school. According to the Tigers’ Twitter account, the team lost their stadium, practice field, weight room and locker room. Their game with Columbia Academy was canceled as well.
Coach Boldin said he wasn’t even sure when his team would be able to play a game at their stadium. He said the bleachers had an issue before the flooding, which he said probably would set them back even more. But the Waverly Tigers are on the minds of a lot of high school fans all across Tennessee.
A lot of those in the sports world have reached out. The Golden Bears of Mt. Juliet High School reached out. Telling the team they spent a portion of a day inventorying their equipment. They wanted to help and told coach Boldin they have a truck and trailer and were ready to deliver what we have. Coach Boldin says they are overwhelmed by the support the team has received.
The Waverly team said “you don’t know how much it saddens us to miss a game. While we are dealing with a larger issue, our community needs to heal. What a better way than football? We just have to get everyone back with loved ones first.”
