Tennessee Tech Advances To The Super Regionals!

The Golden Eagles (52-10) did something that no one could have predicted, sweep an SEC team at their place. TTU defeated Ole Miss 15-5 in game one Monday to force the third and deciding game later that evening and when the dust settled the visitors had shocked the home crowd with a 3-2 win, behind great pitching by junior Nick Osborne from Sevierville. Osborne, the starting right fielder,  worked the final 3-innings allowing 2 hits NO runs and fanned 2. With the victory Tennessee Tech is headed to the first Super Regional for any OVC Conference school. The Golden Eagles will travel to Austin to play Texas in the 3-game series. The winner to Omaha.

Ole Miss was the No. 4 national seed and beat Tennessee Tech 9-8 on Saturday, but lost 15-5 in game 1 Monday and then managed only two runs on eight hits in the nightcap. Trailing 2-0 Tennessee Tech senior Trevor Putzig, hampered by a hamstring injury, tied the game with a two-run shot (17th) in the bottom of the sixth inning. One inning later in the 7th TTU took the lead on a SAC Fly to deep right by Kevin Strohschein plating John Ham making it 3-2.

doubleheader going 2/5, 3 runs with 4 RBI. On numerous at bats the Farragut senior came through with a crucial hit scoring a teammate.

The next step for the Golden Eagles will be the Texas Longhorns in Austin. The NCAA has not yet announced the times of the games in Texas and Tennessee Tech’s super regional. The best-of-three series, though, will be held from June 8-10.

Texas announced on Monday night that it had quickly sold out of tickets for the super regional.
