TennesseeSportsNet (TSN) has learned Chargers Baseball Head Coach Desi Ammons has accepted a job with Lipscomb University in Nashville. Ammons told TSN he will become the Bison assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator and hitting coach under head coach Jeff Forehand.

Ammons said it was a very hard decision. “Columbia State has been home for more than a decade of my life.”

He said he and his girlfriend just got engaged and that his decision was one for his family.

Desi became Columbia State’s interim head baseball coach in May of 2023 following the resignation of then head coach Mike Corn and was later promoted to head coach. Ammons served as an assistant for 6 years. Ammons reflected on time he had given to Columbia State, over 10-years as a student/athlete and coach was some of the best of his life, that the opportunity with Lipscomb University would benefit his family. Desi was very successful as the skipper of the Chargers. Was named TCCAA Coach of the Year in his first year with a record of 33-19.

In the NJCAA Baseball Season of 2013-2014 player Desi Ammons, as part of the Chargers team, batted .338 in 48 games to help them tally a 46-13 overall record and a trip to the NJCAA World Series where they finished the tournament at 2-2. Desi was also named to the All-JUCO World Series team. The Hohenwald native then made his way to Belmont in Nashville where he starred for the Bruins behind the plate for two years 2015 & 2016.

TennesseeSportsNet wants say thank you to Desi Ammons for the help he provided to us while here.

Columbia State Community College will now begin their national search for Ammons’ replacement.
