Columbia State Community College To Hold Public “Athletic Interest Forum”!

The Columbia State Community College has scheduled an “Athletic Interest Forum” to be held Monday November 5th 7:00PM at the Ledbetter Auditorium at their Columbia Campus. The school will hold forums for students and employees at both Williamson and Maury County campuses. October 18th in Columbia and on the 24th in Williamson County.

According to school officials they want to share data about each program. Currently the school fields teams in baseball, softball, soccer and men’s basketball. They want to let the public know where each sport stands concerning graduation, cost and retention.

Back in July of this year CSCC President Janet Smith discontinued women’s basketball after then head coach Bridget Goodnight left in May. The school was unable to secure a new head coach, so the program was “inactivated” for the 2018-19 school year.

This statement was released by the CSCC Communication Office then, “At the end of May, the women’s basketball coach, Bridget Goodnight, resigned her position.

The preliminary review of the women’s basketball program indicated that it has struggled since 2008, game attendance is small and the college has had difficulty in the recruiting and retention of women’s basketball players. Therefore, the college has decided to inactivate the program for one year so that it can assess the effectiveness and the impact on student-athletes and the institution.

The program will be reviewed and a decision made to the continuation of the program by December. The college says the men’s basketball program will continue as scheduled.”

The November 5th 7pm forum is for the athletic booster club and the community at large. You can come to the podium ask questions and state your support for or against.

Columbia State athletic director Johnny Littrell will be there along with the current coaches. Littrell told TSNSports the first meeting held today was very successful. He said around 115 students and employees attended.

If you care about the sports programs (women’s basketball) at Columbia State Community College you ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND and voice your opinions.
