The Columbia State Men’s Basketball program is back on top in the TCCAA Region 7. The Chargers defeated Volunteer State 68-63 Wednesday night in Gallatin to captured the 2022-23 regular season championship.
CSCC trailing 1st place Chattanooga State and after giving up a 16 point lead at home (Dec.3) failed to take the win (61-58) and in the game 2 matchup Feb.11 in Chattanooga losing 71-69.
Going back to December 11 the Chargers stepped up their toughness on the court winning 17 of the final 18 games. The Tigers stumbled with 2 big loses to Roane State & Southwest in February. Those results jumped Columbia State into the lead in the conference. The Chargers won the final 5 games to win the title.
Next, it’s the 2022-23 TCCAA Region 7/Appalachian District Tournament which will begin Friday at Roane State in Harriman.
The last title for Columbia State came in the covid-year of 2019-2020. There was NO NJCAA National Tournament. Before that it was 2011-12 & 2014-15 years Columbia State won the title.
