It was something Tennessee high school fans kicked around for years. Whether or not or “when will” the state high school basketball teams have to compete against a “shot-clock”? Well we got an answer Tuesday June 9 as the TSSAA Board of Control approved the action. It’ll be a four-year plan to fully implement the :35 second shot clock into 100% usage statewide.
The TSSAA Board approved the idmidiate use of a shot clock in holiday tournaments and the Hall of Champions games to help ease school officials into change and see challenges that might arise.
In Tennessee high school basketball with a :35 second shot clock it’ll be just like college. A team will have that much time to attempt a shot. On a rebound off the rim the clock resets. A missed rim on a shot when the clock reaches :00 would be a turnover.
The change will take full effect in the 2029-30 season statewide.
