Columbia State Lady Chargers Open TCCAA Region 7 with Win!

The Lady Chargers saved their best performance of 2024 for the TCCAA/NJCAA tournament opener Saturday as they captured a 81-42 win over Motlow State. As they say you play the regular season to get better for when it really means the most, tournament time. The Lady Chargers did just that. They played their best game yet. Everything fell into place for a team with only five players. Columbia State had just lost Kennedy Adams to a knee injury. Adams was the 2nd player lost late in the year. And what is a bigger deal than most realize, just five players played every minute of the game.

CSCC led the entire way holding the Lady Bucks to single-digit scoring in the first and second quarters taking a commanding 38-15 advantage into halftime.

The Lady Chargers shot 44.3% (27-61) from the field and an amazing 52% from the three-point line. Freshman Ansley Burleson was zeroed in for this game scoring 26 points hitting 8 of 15 from 3-land 53% and was a perfect 2 for 2 at the free throw line. Sophomore Nisea Burrell pumped in 24 points 6-14 from the field 43%, 3-6 from three point land and 9-10 at the line. TreShondra Williams scored 13 while Kalyn Williams dropped 12 points. The 5th player, who has been large in several games, Amiya Saffold added 6 points, 3-9 from the field.

The Lady Chargers led 53-29 at the end of three and outscored Motlow State in the fourth quarter 28-13 to post the win.

Columbia State advances to play Chattanooga State Sunday March 10 at 12pm DST.

Volunteer State drops their game to Southwest 73-50.
