Columbia State Community College today introduced Samantha King as the school’s new softball head coach. Coach King was an assistant under head coach Lori Lindsey who recently resigned the position. She was also an assistant to Kean Barclay head soccer coach.
The announcement was made by CSCC Athletic Director Katie Willingham as she was joined by President Janet F. Smith and vice-president Cissy Holt as they welcomed Samantha King to the Columbia State family.
Coach King, I guess you could say, knows softball. She played for one of the best high school programs in the state of Tennessee the Forrest Lady Rockets in Chapel Hill. She was also very successful following her high school career at Motlow State CC and UT Southern. As a Lady Buck in 2018-19 King had a career .271 batting average with 13 home runs and 42 RBI. At UT in 2020-21 she improved her BA to .302 with 11 HR and 36 RBI. So coach King knows what it takes to have a successful team.
Coach King was asked by TSNSports, if we go back a year, would you have ever had the vision of today? She said, “No shot. I’ve always wanted to be a coach, there’s like nothing more I’ve wanted to be.” King added, “I want success on the field. and in the classroom, and our team to improve each and every year.”

Coach King will have the opportunity to see what she has in 14 players she’ll have returning in 2024. The Lady Chargers will play some fall ball this year which will begin Saturday Sept. 9th against UT Southern at Eddie Campbell Field. If you can’t be there to support the team you can watch it live on TennesseeSportsNet CSCC Page. Several teams will also be in town on Oct. 6th for a fall ball play day.
